A&J Opticians - About Us

Anita and James are qualified opticians offering both private and NHS eyecare to the population of Great Torrington and the surrounding area.

Our vision was to create a bright, modern, welcoming environment and to offer a wide range of optical services and high quality eyewear to suit all patient budgets and taste. We believe we have achieved this and that our patients are made to feel welcome and valued.

Your eye examination will be carried out by one of our optometrists and will take about 30 to 45 minutes. This will comprise a thorough assessment of your vision as well as checks of your eye pressure, peripheral vision and general ocular health. Other investigations relevant to your history and symptoms may also be included, such as dry eye assessment, colour vision screening and retinal imaging.

Following the examination you may spend unlimited time with James who will give expert advice on optimising your visual comfort through selection of the most suitable frame and lens combinations to meet your fashion requirements and budget.

Our relationship with you does not end when you walk out of the door with your glasses or contact lenses. At A&J Opticians, we believe that patient satisfaction is an ongoing and evolving two-way process. After your eye examination we place you on a recall system and write to you inviting you back for your next test at the interval recommended by Anita (usually every two years). If you are a contact lens wearer, we notify you when it's time for your contact lens check-up.

Continuing care is all part of the service at A&J Opticians, if you need to see us more often we are always here for you. Your spectacles receive a fair bit of wear and tear with regular use, so for this reason, we offer our patients a free minor repairs and adjustments service. We will replace nose pads or screws on frames we have supplied at no extra charge.

The practice is centrally located and situated on the ground floor so is easily accessible to wheelchair users.
